Matchbox Labels – Series No. 1
It was the Mendelssohn Opera Company of New York City who's credited with adopting matchboxes for marketing purposes in 1892. Matchbox advertising quickly spread through every industry imaginable. However, in the mid-1970s, the introduction of disposable lighters devastated the industry. We are interested in disrupters, changes that make objects obsolete. These rapid evolutions might kill a product but they never kill the beauty that was once vibrant. Here we have beautiful grids of Japanese Art Deco labels and Eastern Bloc labels.
